Software
TimeReach
- TimeReach is a web application accessible from virtually any modern device.
- The tool takes user-provided data and arranges it into an interactive timeline.
- The data is searchable.
- Timelines generated by user searches may be compared to each other.
- Individual events may be associated with tags, images, and links.
Conceivably any kind of time-relational data can be arranged in timeline formats, and we believe there should be no barriers limiting the types of data displayed.
Demonstrations
To develop our tool, we collected data in topics we know and taught in the classroom. With this, we are continuously testing the functionality and current limits of our software. While our data is currently limited, the two main demonstrations are fast becoming a resource for learning and discussing the events that shape our human history.
Environmental Design
The tool displays data of the history of environmental design, including Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Engineering, and many other fields. The TimeReach team is curating the data to provide an authoritative academic presentation of the topic of Environmental Design of the 20th Century and its major influences.
Social Studies
We are partnering with educational institutions to test our systems for teaching advanced historical thinking skills. Explore Cultural Development, Nation Building, Politics, and Arts throughout recorded Human History. Take a trip through time to see how our global cultures came to be.
Current Progress
While we have functioning models of our concept, the interface and graphic presentation of the tool is under development. To demonstrate the tool, our team has been developing some content worth viewing. Many functions of the tool are in development and require further work to support modern demands for speed and ease of use.
Upcoming Features
Our tool is under continual development to improve the graphic interface and to manage data of wider time scales. Many graphic features will also receive attention. The data infrastructure has many potential applications such as mapping and multiple languages, and what we have now is just the beginning.
- Individual events will allow association with related events, building timelines within timelines for a wide and deep perspective on histories.
- Users will be able to add custom data for private or shared viewing.
- Users will be able to save generated timelines and sets of timelines for easy recall for display in presentations or to continue research.
- Any user will be able to share timelines with other users in social and academic environments.
- Users will be able to customize the display of timelines:
- Set the beginning and end limits of a timeline
- Define custom parameters like display colors and fonts
- Filter types of data and search parameters
- Set visibility features for students or children to limit the scope of the tool for academic purposes
- We will expand the limits of visible time to the beginning of observable history (13 billion years).
- There will be settings to limit the scope of events to filter data for events of cosmic, human, or infinitesimal scales. Generally, only one scale will be visible at a time.
- Events may be mapped to a global map, or potentially a star map for cosmic events.
Beta Viewing Tips
We recommend a few things to ensure a good user experience:
- Work from a relatively fast Internet connection of 10Mbps or better.
- Use a recently updated web browser.
- We test using Windows, Android, and iOS systems on desktops and tablets. We have recently added support for phone and other small-screen interfaces also.
- Clear your browser cache occasionally if you visit often. As we make frequent system updates, some features might not work correctly if your machine retains some old data.
